A Grade II listed building, parts of which date back to 1689, Three Abbey Green is a Four Star Gold Award guest house, hidden away in a quiet cobbled square in the heart of central Bath. A stone’s throw from the Abbey and Roman Baths, everything you could wish to see is on your doorstep.

3 Abbey GreenWe think Three Abbey Green is one of the most beautiful buildings in Bath, a city overflowing with Georgian grandeur and astonishing architecture. We never cease to be excited about running our family business in Abbey Green. It is rare to find such a beautiful, almost pedestrian-only square in the heart of a city. It should be remembered, however, that we are in the centre of a vibrant city and pedestrians are not always as quiet as we might like them to be!

The main house, Three Abbey Green, has seven rooms (including two large suites ideal for families or groups) and the associated Jane Austen Wing in Four Abbey Green, adjacent to the main house, has three rooms, each with its own character and unique charm. Our beautiful rooms are spread over three floors, with the exception of Elinor Dashwood, which has an extra flight of fairly narrow stairs to climb. The rooms are accessed by a grand Georgian staircase in the main house and a charming, winding staircase in the Jane Austen Wing. Period features such as original fireplaces and wood panelled walls fit comfortably with tasteful contemporary furnishings.

IMG_7171Part of our ethos as a family business is that we welcome guests of any age and we try to accommodate any special needs they may have. We have two ground floor rooms in the main house, the bathrooms of which have been specially designed to assist guests with mobility problems. Our staircases have hand rails. We can convert nearly all our beds from superking doubles to twin beds to enable siblings or a parent with children to each to have their own bed. We can cater for the needs of all children, no matter how young. We routinely carry breakfast stock for most dietary requirements but do chat to us in advance to ensure we have in stock whatever you need.

If you would like a little more space and privacy, consider our Gold Award apartment Abbey View, located in a listed building opposite the guest house and immediately above our own family home. Blending period features with modern convenience, Abbey View is furnished in elegant and contemporary style, with a fully fitted kitchen equipped with high quality appliances – everything you could wish for in a home away from home.

Three Abbey Green is a family business started in 2002 by Derek and Sue. From the beginning, the ethos of the business has always been to try to provide the highest standard of accommodation combined with excellent customer service, reflecting our own expectations if we were the paying guest. When Nici took over the reins in 2010 and her husband Alan came out of the Army to join her in 2012, nothing changed except that they also have a child, Finlay, and a dog called Bear, but they still aim to balance provision of excellent service with a normal, busy family life. This does mean that you may not find them in the guest house by late afternoon but they remain accessible from home at all times to give advice, information or help. The family home is only 50 yards away and they can be contacted by the speakerphone connecting the buildings, a telephone call or by email.

We were delighted to receive in October 2015 the VisitEngland ROSE Award in recognition of excellent customer service. In this inaugural year, we were the only business in Bath to receive this national award. It came as a complete surprise to the family, as we had been put forward by VisitEngland’s inspectors, backed up by our customer reviews.

It is a point of pride for us to maintain our high standards without compromising the personal touch that brings guests back to stay with us again and again.
