In Three Abbey Green:
Happy New Year to you all. We were pleased to see so many of you in 2016 and hope that we will catch up with you again in Bath sometime this year, as well as welcoming new guests. As I write, we are doing our regular ‘shut down’ for the next six days to make time to do all those jobs that we can’t do while we have guests – some re-decoration, carpet and curtain cleaning, re-decorating, fitting our first fridge into one of our rooms.
The management team:
This seems like a good time to tell you about our recent staff changes too. Flora, after working loyally and tirelessly for us for over two years, decided it was time to return to her native Hungary. Knowing that Sue is only getting older and even admitting to slowing down a little (!), it seemed the perfect opportunity to restructure the management of the business to give Nici and Alan some more time to spend being a family with son Finlay. With some trepidation, we took a step into the unknown and decided to appoint two residential assistant managers, who would be able to assist with covering the business in the evenings and over-night, as well as weekends.
Interest in the role was beyond our wildest dreams and we were able to appoint Kellie and Olly. Kellie is from the Blue Mountains in Australia and Olly from Thornbury, near Bristol. They demonstrated from the beginning a real enthusiasm and commitment to ensuring that our guests have the best possible time with us. They are warm, funny and hard-working. Look out for them when you come to stay.
The locally-sourced toiletries:
We are also delighted to tell that you that we have finally found a local supplier for our shampoo, body wash and hand wash. Bramley is a range of natural bath and body products that are handmade locally in Somerset, using the highest quality essential oils in all natural bases. The products were designed by Chloe Luxton in 2009 (previously of Cowshed and Green and Spring) to represent the English country garden and the scents and packaging reflect this ethos. There are no nasty chemicals and wholesale products are all made to order which guarantees freshness and maximises shelf life. www.bramleyproducts.co.uk
A new neighbour:
We also have some interesting new neighbours in Abbey Green, just on the other side of the square to the guest house. The Foodie Bugle source and sell delicious artisan food and drink and simple, useful homewares, both old and new. The shop-tearoom is at 2 Abbey Street, next door to Abbey View apartment, and close to the Roman Baths and Bath Abbey. You can sit and enjoy seasonal homebaked cakes and hot drinks, juices, wines, Prosecco and ales www.thefoodiebugleshop.com
A new friend:
We have also made a new friend. Around & About Bath was conceived and established by Julian (‘Jules’) Mittra, a former History and Politics lecturer with a passion for travel and people and who has lived in the Bath region for over a decade. He loves meeting new people, laughing and sharing his passion for history, places and great experiences.
At Around & About Bath, the mission is to offer visitors more than a typical tour or guide does. Jules says, ‘We want you to be immersed in the local culture and see a more authentic England. We strive to share a real sense of place beyond the typical tourist sights and experiences that travellers to the region usually experience. We aim to reveal something more of the area, to uncover its history and characters, discover hidden gems, and enjoy great quality food and drink in unique settings. We want you to leave feeling that you have had a taste of authentic, quintessential England, and with memories that will last a lifetime.’ Lots more information on Jules’ website www.aroundandaboutbath.com
