Summer is always a busy time in Bath and at Three Abbey Green – and this year is no exception! With all sorts of happenings, from new arrivals to a look ahead at September, here are the news headlines:
Welcome Flora! Those of you who follow us on Twitter, @3abbeygreen, may have spotted a very brief welcome message announcing the appointment of our new Assistant Manager, Flora. Since she joined us in June, Flora has become an invaluable part of the Three Abbey Green family, so we wanted to take this opportunity to tell you a little more about her.
Flora moved to Bath 8 years ago from Budapest, Hungary, to study at Bath Spa University and to pursue a career in the tourism and cultural industry. Having excelled in her studies, she went on to work in a number of different organisations, including the National Trust, the S.S. Great Britain in Bristol and Bath & North-East Somerset Council. Flora says “both my boyfriend, who also works in a local hotel, and I have always worked hard towards the goals we have set in our careers as well as in our personal lives.”
Flora came to Three Abbey Green from the Windsor guest house, where she enjoyed her work as a Duty Manager. “However,” she explains, “I felt that the career pathway offered to me by Three Abbey Green was an excellent opportunity. I have been working here for almost three months now and I truly enjoy being part of a lovely team and working place. I am looking forward with great enthusiasm to my future and the challenges it will bring.” As are we, Flora. Welcome to the team!
New Leaflet – next time you’re in the neighbourhood, be sure to pick up a copy! Designed to our specifications by local graphic designer Dermot Rushe, we think it really represents what Three Abbey Green is all about: elegance, comfort and a warm welcome.
Dermot is an experienced graphic designer/art director with a rich history of working for some of the biggest magazine publishing companies in the UK. Keen to work with new people on exciting projects large or small, we think Dermot has done a wonderful job on our new leaflet – so if you have a project in mind, drop him an email at email@example.com or contact us for a reference. Thanks Dermot!
Jane Austen Festival. Since it looks like this good ol’ British weather may well wash away what’s left of August, let’s lift our spirits with a look ahead to next month and one of the highlights of September in Bath, the Jane Austen Festival. This year’s festival commences at noon on Friday 12th September, with a talk at the Theatre Royal by Jo Baker, author of Longbourn, the story of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice as seen through the eyes and lives of the Bennet family household servants.
The ten-day festival boasts a full and varied programme of events, including the famous Grand Regency Costumed Promenade through the streets of Bath on Saturday 13th September. Whether you’re stepping out to be seen in your Georgian finery or watching from the sidelines, it’s a true spectacle. The Promenade will begin at 10am at the Assembly Rooms with an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed in Regency Costumes. Don’t miss it!
And Finally... Our brochure isn’t the only thing getting a makeover this season – we have decided to give our beautiful Grade 2 Listed guest house a little extra TLC. So if you’re coming to stay with us in September please be aware that there will be scaffolding in place throughout the month to allow our decorators to repaint window frames and surrounds.
The comfort of our guests is always our primary concern, so we want to assure you that disturbances will be kept to an absolute minimum – work will be undertaken only between 9am and 5pm and our decorators, who have done lots of work for us in the past, are both quiet and discreet – you will barely know they’re there! That said, we know that our lovely Georgian building is a large part of what draws many of you to stay with us, and we know it will not be looking its very best externally while festooned with scaffolding. So we are offering all guests who book to stay with us during September a 10% discount on their stay – just quote ‘Autumn Special’ when you make your booking. We can’t wait to see you!
